Colon Therapy also known as a colonic, colonic lavage, colon hydrotherapy or high colonic is a safe and effective method for cleansing the colon by repeated, gentle flushing of purified water.
What is the colon?
The colon, or large intestine, is the last portion of our digestive tract. It measures approximately 5.5 feet in length and 2.5 inches in diameter. It functions to eliminate solid waste, conserve water and reabsorbtion of electrolytes and minerals. Beneficial bacteria in the colon also synthesize vitamin K and portions of the B complex.
Why is colon health important?
In today's society, most people eat a lot of refined and processed foods (i.e. white flour & sugar, processed cheeses and meats) all of which contribute to bowel discomfort, difficulty absorbing nutrients and changes in bowel habits like constipation and diarrhea. This is commonly called Toxic Bowel Condition.
What are common symptoms of Toxic Bowel Condition?
Yes, but toxicity is not limited to just the colon. Toxic material is found throughout the body, especially in fat tissue, joints, arteries, muscles, liver, gullbladder, lungs, kidneys, skin, etc. Since colonics effectively eliminate large amounts of toxic waste, therefore affecting the condition of the entire body.
How is a colonic performed?
You and a colon therapist will be in a private room for the procedure. You will be either gowned or adequately covered by a sheet. A short, sterilized speculum will be inserted into the rectum and two tubes will be attached to the end of the speculum, one for purified water to enter the colon and the other for is a clear tube through which water and fecal debris is flushed out of the colon, directly to the septic or sewer system. Small amounts of water flow into the colon and are then flushed out repeatedly for 20-30 minutes. Abdominal massage and pressure points may also be used to loosen impacted fecal material from the colon wall.
Is this safe?
Yes, colon therapy is safe because it
is essentially a natural process. Our equipment is sterilized for each patient. The good bacteria are not flushed out of the colon in large quantities. In fact, colonics actually enhance the performance of the good bacteria by removing the putrefying waste commonly found impacted to the colon walls inhibiting their natural abilities. Your body's electrolyte balance may change during the procedure, but with good dietary habits it can be easily restored. Colonics are never performed on patients with active ulcerative colitis or following recent colon surgery.
How is a colonic different from an enema?
Enemas are useful for emptying the rectum, which is the lowest 8-12 inches of the colon. However, colonics cleanse the entire large intestine and have the cleansing power of many enemas without the mess, especially for patients who may have difficulty giving themselves an enema.
How many will I need?
Colonics are usually taken in a series to remove impacted fecal material. One may partially cleanse the colon, but as more are taken, deeper layers of putrefying fecal material are removed, similar to removing the layers of an onion. Sometimes dietary modifications and supplements are also recommended to enhance the benefits of colon therapy.
